I'm reading On the Road again at the moment which makes my bus journeys far less tiresome, it's also giving me some really good ideas, the book has done that for so many people it's unbelieveable. I have far too many plans at the moment, I really should filter through them at some point.
As much as I enjoy Kerouac's writing, it really grinds on me. Not his text, but rather the influence that his writing has had. People think that if they work by his exaggerated logic and just type, type, type, with no care whatsoever then the quality is still going to be there in the end. I've seen it myself when reading people who I know love Kerouac, but their work comes out as garbage. I might be a writing snob here (which is wholly unjustified) but it really does annoy me, even more so when I have to edit the piece! I just want a little more love in the script that I have to read, I'm far more likely to enjoy it if I don't have to wade through the rubbish. Truman Capote got it right, but I think people take Kerouac's comments on writing far to literally.
Anyway, back to my writing escapades. The scripts that I've completed so far have been well-received, a few niggles here and there but it's all very minor. I can feel the quality improving as I work on every new script, each idea feels more original than the next so hopefully they will stand out. I have a complete set of first drafts for one character almost completed, they just need a final read through and then they will be ready to send. It's all very exciting!
I look forward to Jack Kerouac rescuing me from the abyss of bus boredom tomorrow.

A whole host of scripts!
Okay so I've been pretty busy apparently, I've got two short comedy sketches written and ready to send off tomorrow. They'll do the rounds for feedback and changed accordingly, I'm pretty confident in them so hopefully they won't get torn apart too much! I have at least three more, longer sketches to do this week - plan is to get the first group of sendable drafts done by Sunday. The deadlines are strange and they have good and bad effects, it makes me write, and that can either lead to complete garbage or a little bit of genius. It's good being forced to work though, it keeps me creative!
In other exciting news I have two scripts which I'm planning to ship around to people. My main priority is a short film I've finally got around to writing, it was an idea trapped in my head for about a year but now it's managed to escape onto paper. I'm onto about the fourth draft now and it's not quite clicking, it just doesn't give enough back to the reader just yet. I think I'll leave it a few days and then take another look - I want it done by the end of the month though - it's all part of the masterplan!
I also have 105 pages to do something with, but I don't know what. I think the story might be a little too ambitious, although it reads well to me after about five drafts. Maybe it's time to send it around, many a decision needs to be made!

Script stresses
I'm a tad stressed about the quality of these scripts, however I refuse to heap the blame completely on myself - some of the characters are just plain awful. I have to send one tomorrow, let's hope it reads better in the morning after a few touches here and there!

Right then...
When Jared gets bored on a Sunday he shuns proper paid work and decides to start a blog - it's about time to be honest. Hopefully I can keep updated and continue plotting my meteoric rise, it should be pretty exciting for anyone who drunkenly stumbles upon me and decides to takes a look! Anyway, I've got to complete a script by Wednesday to impress a group of scousers, so I should really get started, off we go...
